High Desert Astronomical Society (HiDAS)
The Telescope Guys are proud to support and collaborate with the High Desert Astronomical Society (HiDAS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to astronomy education and outreach.
HiDAS has been an important presence in the Southern California astronomy community for decades, and we value the opportunity to work alongside their members whenever possible.
About HiDAS
The High Desert Astronomical Society (HiDAS) is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1986 to provide trained, volunteer astronomers to operate and maintain the Lewis Center’s astronomical equipment.
In addition to supporting observatory operations, HiDAS is committed to fostering and supporting interest in the science of astronomy among its members and the general public.
HiDAS Responsibilities & Mission
Through its Board of Directors, HiDAS oversees observatory operations at the Lewis Center, including:
- Acquisition and maintenance of observatory equipment
- Training, certification, and scheduling of volunteer astronomers
- Providing support to advance science and technology education
Our Relationship
Kyle, one of the Telescope Guys, is a member of HiDAS, and we regularly support outreach events in partnership with the society whenever opportunities arise.
These collaborations allow us to combine resources, experience, and enthusiasm to reach more people and share the night sky in meaningful ways.
HiDAS’s commitment to education, volunteerism, and public access to astronomy aligns closely with our own outreach philosophy. Working together helps strengthen the broader astronomy community and expands opportunities for people to experience the universe firsthand.
